Ao todo, são 112 atividades distribuidas por dez capítulos: Capítulo 1: Warmers, ice-breakers and fillers Capítulo 2: Teaching English through songs Capítulo 3: Teaching children and teenagers Capítulo 4: Classroom management techniques Capítulo 5: Grammar made easier Capítulo 6: Games for all ages Capítulo 7: Teaching adults Capítulo 8: Private teaching Capítulo 9: Video Time Capítulo 10: Internet shortcuts to good teaching Para saber a opinião de quem já o leu, leia abaixo o prefácio de Francesca Smith, que é Master of Science em TESOL, e da professora Zédina, de Araranguá (SC): Foreword by Francesca McClure Smith: As a practicing teacher of English, I have always loved recipe books due to the fact that they provide me with countless, easily accessible, new ideas. This has been one of the things that has helped to keep my teaching varied and interesting, something which motivates me as much as it does my students. However, there was a turning point in my career where I felt the need to go deeper. I didn't want to be a 'monkey teacher', copying what others had told me to do without thinking. So I studied the theories that undermine good practice, I did classroom research and I learned to reflect on and to adapt activities so that they would better suit my teaching situation, while discarding what was inappropriate or incoherent with the principles I had formed. What most appeals to me about Teaching Tools is the fact that it does not treat the reader as a 'monkey teacher'. It goes beyond simply listing recipes, although it certainly has a great many, to explain the rationale behind them, while encouraging the reader to adapt, and showing where to look if we want to know more. In short, it's the perfect book for the busy 'thinking teacher'. The author, Vivian Magalhães, has managed to combine her two loves of teaching and writing to make the whole experience highly readable, more reminiscent of chatting over a coffee with a friendly and enthusiastic colleague than reading a book on teaching. She offers practical advice for all types of situation, from large, mixed ability groups to one-to-one, and kids to seniors. Likewise, the activities described range from classics that the more experienced teacher will be happy to be reminded of, to up-to-the-minute suggestions based on modern concepts such as neurobics and multiple intelligences. In Teaching Tools, Vivian has openly shared with us more than 20 years of teaching experience. I enjoyed reading it and my classes have benefited from it, I hope yours will too. Francesca Smith Dip.
