Have you ever felt as if your English were literally shrinking? Well, welcome to the club.
Teaching basic students for too long, insufficient contact with native speakers or with authentic materials, little time to attend seminars and conferences, little money to invest on books (let alone trips abroad!) are some of the factors that contribute to the gradual loss of sharpness in everybody's language skills.
Because the English teaching market is highly competitive nowadays, being aware of the problem is not enough: something has to be done about it. Unfortunately, some teachers feel embarrassed to admit they might profit from having a few classes themselves. But the question is: if it is OK for a psychologist to undergo therapy with another psychologist, for a lawyer to seek help from another lawyer, for a doctor to be treated by another doctor, why wouldn't it be OK for a teacher to have classes from another teacher?
If you think being a teacher doesn't mean that you have to know everything, Express English has a few options of teacher development courses that may interest you. The classes will be conducted by Vivian Magalhães, an experienced teacher and teacher trainer. These 60 or 90-minute meetings will include research work, discussion of teaching and methodology-related issues, pronunciation and vocabulary-raising exercises, and lots of teacher-level conversation.
You will have the following options:
Private classes: (1 or 2 students)
One hour in class + one hour guided self-study per week (R$150,00/month)
Groups (minimum 3, maximum 5 teachers)
90 minutes in class + one hour guided self-study per week (R$60,00/month )
Short-term courses (minimum 3, maximum 5 teachers)
1 hour per week, for 6 weeks (2X R$ 50,00)
· Helpful computer skills for English teachers
· Strategies for effective one-to-one teaching
The dates and times for the classes are arranged, as much as possible,
according to the teachers' availability. So, if you are interested,
be sure to call as soon as possible, stating the course you are interested
in and the days/times you are available (morning or afternoon). The
more options you leave, the easier it will be for us to place you
in a group.
We will be looking forward to hearing from you.
